Well….since our original blog on these lovely films (Here), which includes an explanation on what Remjet is and what it does. And now things have moved along a little…
First, we have now upgraded all Kodak Vision stocks to the latest Vision3 films…we have also taken in some of the Fuji equivalent, in the form of Eterna 250D which has a very different look to the Kodak 250D and, due to the fact that the Remjet just washes off it in the pre-wash, is recommended for those starting out with colour motion picture film.[fusion_builder_container hundred_percent=”yes” overflow=”visible”][fusion_builder_row][fusion_builder_column type=”1_1″ background_position=”left top” background_color=”” border_size=”” border_color=”” border_style=”solid” spacing=”yes” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” padding=”” margin_top=”0px” margin_bottom=”0px” class=”” id=”” animation_type=”” animation_speed=”0.3″ animation_direction=”left” hide_on_mobile=”no” center_content=”no” min_height=”none”]
The above samples are early preliminary shots, we’re already seeing nice photos by customers using this film.
We’ve also taken in some Kodak Vision3 200T…tungsten film aimed at indoor use and lighting but gives a rather pleasant colour shift when used in daylight, quite a soft looking film that we hope more people will try out and enjoy, here are some samples:
It’s a look that we understand not everybody will like, it’s aimed at the bluer end of the spectrum so as to counter the yellow light of traditional tungsten light bulbs….ideal for continuous lighting then…but can be manipulated using some of the incredibly cheap colour correction filters that are to be had.
It’s incredibly sharp you’ll notice…which is why they’ve used it on the special effects sequences in the new Star Wars movie, and that, is exactly where this stock came from! 😉
We went even further
Our supplier said “Psst…fancy something a bit different….” (I hate it when they do that!….) but they offered us 65mm film that has been left over from the new episode of the Mission Impossible series of films that has just wrapped at Levesden Studios on London, so, we end up with a can of 65mm iMax Vision3 250D. 5mm too wide for a 120 spool but promising….
Interest was immense…but we managed to modify our 120 to 127 film chopper. It took several attempts to get it right but as usual, we got there…here’s how:
The pictures above include a sample shot on 250D and we hope they go some way towards demonstrating how much effort and time it takes to prepare this film stock ready for sale and use in medium format cameras…
As per all the films so far mentioned, these are available from our online shop but due to the time taken only small batches can be prepared at a time so grab them while you can! Don’t forget that we send out a cheat sheet to assist the home developer with Remjet removal or they can be returned to us for processing.
So what does come next?
Well…it’s it keeps selling then we shall keep stocking it!
Lately we’re getting more Vision films in for processing that we are normal C41…and that shows how well it’s been received and has impressed us at how open minded and willing film buyers truly are!
In terms of the Remjet feedback tells us that the home developers that have got stuck in are now wondering what all the worry was about! We even have one that says “…getting rid of the remjet is so easy that’s pretty much the end of Cinestill for me….Visions it is from now on” Best feedback ever as far as we’re concerned!
So from here….well, we have a can of 65mm Vision3 500T on offer but it’s so difficult to prepare to 120 we’re not ready to commit. We have however just ordered a can of what appears to be amazing film in the form of Fuji Reala 500T which of course will have the totally no fuss Fuji remjet!
