A cynical change in name for this Pyro Developer, known briefly as Obsidion Aqua NT (we thought that a bit pretentious) so here’s Colin, a Black & White Pyro Film Developer by Nik & Trick
It has however been receiving high user accolades such as: “Rollei Retro 400S which is one of my favourite film stocks when developed in Nik & Trick’s Colin….it’s really come out well! in fact, I think I’ve found the best combination (I did used to develop this in LC29 and that was also great!)”
To be clear this, as the name confirms is not associated with any other retail product, we only make occasional batches of this one so grab it while you can!
Colin is rebellious! Evolved despite, via a formula that was based on “slight” variation of a Hands Windsich formula that was sold by Perutz after WWII
Initially we found that it worked well in testing but the high levels of concentrates meant that it’s toxicity really was not very user friendly, certainly not enough for our liking nor the home environment many users work within:
The original Part A was also difficult to measure out as so little was used but was also presented in a very concentrated mix that as we said, we felt to be far too toxic to offer as a retail product.
Despite our modifications, we still recommend however that chemical proof gloves be worn when handling this or any photographic chemistry!
You may (or may not!) find that Part B crystalises like a slushy…no problem, just warm it up and shake it!
It is found to be a very sharp developer that has good tonality as you can see from sample photos in the product gallery…download the tested times already established HERE!
In the pack:
- Part A and Part B sufficient for 20 35mm films
- Guide Sheet
- 5ml Measuring Syringe (if required, please say at checkout)
Tom Potts –
When you get this one right it’s lovely! As more dev times are being found for it that is getting easier.
Really makes a subject pop, gives a real depth to a photo, almost 3D.
Kodak Double X and Rollei Retro 80S love it!

Just used this again after more than a year and I forgot how good it looks!
I am 100% behind this developer. It gives such a depth to your pictures!
