Nik & Trick’s Unique ECNP2 Cross Process Service for Remjet Films means that it’s us taking the lead once again here at Nik & Trick…or as Filippo the Manager at BelliniFoto raves: “You two are pioneers!!”
That or we’re going soft in the head but anyway, there’s been a lot of interest in this particular service which involve the cross processing of process ECN2 films using BelliniFoto Motion Picture Positive rather than negative chemistry, don’t get excited, it won’t cause a positive image!
It’s something that has never been done before as far as we can see, so of course the keen film lover will know that, like any cross process results are unpredictable and can be varied… there is no guarantee of what changes might happen during cross processing…so far what we’re experiencing:
Popping Reds
Saturated Shadows
Finer grain
Unique texture
Sharp detail
Variable colour casts
Thus far negatives acquired have produced scans from both our Noritsu and home scanners, that are fun to work with…yes that’s right, factor in the presumption that post processing will be required and that will mean by laptop or desktop rather than mobile apps.
What this means is that you can make of the images what you want to make of them. Could call it artistic interpretation, if you like, perhaps you might just like them the way they turn out, creative control is up to you!
Due to the post processing requirement we are not offering prints as part of this service.
We’ve found that the look that WE like comes mainly from the manipulation the yellow and cyan levels, with some adjustment to curves, lights and shadows.
End result: It really is your call, the future of this unique process will be very much user driven, quite predictably, we’ll keep playing too of course…
Shooting tips:
Not many as yet. Got confused so some photos were metered at 500asa and some at 800asa…in all honesty it didn’t actually seem to make a hell of a lot of odds either way.
Best advice we can actually give is just to have fun 🙂
Due to the delicate nature and short life span of the developer used, processes will only be initiated when we have a batch of 10 or more rolls to do.
