Rare Konica Kanpai Sound Activated 35mm Compact ~ “The Party Camera!”

We have had SO much fun with these in the shop, and that’s without even putting a film in one! 

How to explain this fascinating little gem?   I thought it best to quote Chris & Carol:

“Confused??? Don’t be. Here’s a fun little 35mm film camera made by Konica in 1989. It’s called the Kanpai! – essentially “cheers”

It’s a voice-activated camera that was designed to attach to a special mini tripod that allowed the camera to swivel (up to 100 degrees) and would take a picture whenever someone at a party yelled “cheers!” or whatever.”

We’ve got a couple of them (holding onto one as we get such a laugh with it!) and they’ve been causing great fun in the shop from the minute we got them.  This one comes with case and mini tripod, which, although not the special swivelly one…does get it to swivel a bit!

From what we’ve seen they’re armed with a killer lens and have been popular among street shooters because of the top viewfinder (like the Yashica T5’s)

In lovely condition and fitted with a new battery, it’s been well tested
