Lucky C400 Colour Negative Film is the next generation emulsion from the Chinese factory and we are really chuffed to have been invited to be pretty much one of the first to access this exciting new film.
As yet I don’t have any words from the factory itself, (they’re not always very communicative) and a quick scan around the web brings up the usual, plenty of fluff, presumption and conjecture.
A few decent words but mostly a lot of clickbait, especially when it comes to prices most of which are either guessed, presumed or based on previous China domestic market costs that fail to consider logistics costs and taxations so let us get that out of the way for a starter!
So now, about the film:
Building on the success of C200 which has become a best seller over our counter with people thrilled with results and buying more and more, this 400asa colour print film sits very nicely postioned within the consumer level of the marketplace.
You’d presume that this faster fillm will have a slight more grain which on first appearance seems to not be the case but like their B&W it has strong but contained contrast and very fine detail. could be accused of a tad strange palette but it looks good and vibrant, perhaps with a bit of a retro feel to it.
See the gallery photos made using the lovely Fuji TX-1 Panoramic we have for sale, processed using the very same services we offer you….
In time, there will also be a 120 format version coming too and that is one that really will compliment analogue photography very nicely thank you and we shall put the case forwards for 127 too!

I have been a fan of Kodak colour film for as long as I have been shooting film, about half a century or more. However, LuckyFilm C400 is a viable contender for my money during Spring and Autumn when I like to shoot colour film. I found the colour balance to be decent for a first production run and no doubt LuckyFilm will tweak the recipe as they get more feedback. I know LuckyFilm once made film by the ship load and are coming back to the market with the experience of the golden age of film tucked into their archives. It’s great to have another manufacturer bringing competitively priced colour film to the market. You can check out my photos in my Flickr album. I have not edited them in any way, they are the scans I received after developing by our fine chums here at Nik & Trick.
